DOUGLASVILLE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Director of Children's Ministries Reports to: Minister of Spiritual Formation Effective: 6/01/13 Status: Part-time with intent to become a Full-time position Job Summary The Direction of Children's Ministries will provide leadership and oversight to the children's ministries at Douglasville FUMC; expressing a love for children and nurturing them in their spiritual development. Essential Functions: ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Work with and communicate regularly with Sr. Pastor, Associate Pastors, Church Staff, and Children's Council. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Communicate regularly with all children's teachers and workers. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Coordinate promotion of children's ministry programs and facility use with church calendar. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Lead in the recruitment of all teachers and workers for the children's Sunday school classes and special activities for children. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Order all Sunday school and education literature on a regular basis for the children's department. Order all supplies, resources and equipment as needed for all groups. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Provide an ongoing evaluation of the children's programs so they will continue to improve and be the very best they can be. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Encourage and help create a Christ centered enthusiasm in children and their families. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Develop worship, educational and recreational activities for the Children's Department. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Provide the latest on-going training and resources for children's teachers, workers and volunteers, including, but not limited to, Safe Sanctuary Policies. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Attend professional training workshops and continuing education classes as time permits. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Visit sick children in the hospital when possible. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Take one weekday off each week. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Present budget recommendations for a viable children's ministry to Finance Committee and monitor expenditures to assure compliance with church policy. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Participate in necessary church meetings, staff meetings, staff gatherings and staff retreats. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Perform other duties as assigned by the Minister of Spiritual Formation and/or in conjunction with the Sr. Pastor. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ The Director Children's Ministries shall abide by policies and procedures as printed in the Douglasville First United Methodist Employee Handbook. Minimum Qualifications: ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Individual should be of good moral character with an understanding of the Christian faith. This individual should have a love for children and a desire to nurture them in their spiritual development. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Bachelor's Degree in the area of early childhood education; or experience to match. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â¢ Demonstrate experience in leadership, planning, and organization. â€¢ To develop and guide the vision for Childrenâ€™s Ministry. â€¢ To enlist, train, and coordinate members of Childrenâ€™s leadership team. Work with and through that team to plan and coordinate all ministries with children. â€¢ To coordinate Childrenâ€™s Sunday school program. Enlist, train, and coordinate volunteers; recommend appropriate curriculum materials, oversee ordering of and editing of all curriculums. â€¢ To coordinate Wednesday Night Programs for Childrenâ€™s Ministry. â€¢ To provide oversight for staff and volunteers who provide child care for Sunday morning worship, Sunday school and Wednesday night programs, for any church ministry requesting nursery care.
