Letter From Moses Kumar, General Council on Finance and Administration:

We have good news to share with you about United Methodist Insurance. In an effort to continue to provide quality insurance and risk coverage in GCFA’s fulfillment of the Book of Discipline requirement to “institute, manage, and maintain an insurance program” (¶ 807.19) for United Methodist properties, United Methodist Insurance (UMI) has entered into an agreement with AmTrust Financial Services (AmTrust) – a provider that will deliver insurance expertise and an improved customer service experience for ministries protected through UMI. AmTrust has received an A.M. Best “A-” (Excellent) rating.

With the changes, UMI will no longer bear the risk of insurance-related losses. The agreement with AmTrust, a multi-national organization, provides a stable partner for current and future insureds with the added possibility of wider coverage throughout the United States – protecting ministries in areas that UMI has not been able to provide insurance coverage in the past. It is also expected that this change will, eventually, provide the financial funding that will allow UMI to pay back previous investors of the insurance program.

Local churches and other ministries currently insured by UMI will receive notification of the change but it is expected that few administrative changes will occur. The program becomes effective for current insured properties to begin the renewal
process January 1, 2019. They can reach AmVenture by calling 866-203-0777 or by email at unitedmethodistinsurance@amventure.com; or you can reach Sid Gray, VP and Treasurer of UMI at sgray@umins.org or 615-369-2345.

Existing policies, expiration dates, etc., remain the same and coverage through UMI will continue until your current policy expires. Existing policy holders will be contacted well in advance of the end of their policy term.

Properties that are not currently covered by UMI can begin inquiry for coverage in the new program as early as August 15, 2018. They can reach AmVenture by calling 866-203-0777 or by email at unitedmethodistinsurance@amventure.com; or you can reach Sid Gray, VP and Treasurer of UMI at sgray@umins.org or 615-369-2345.
