Tennessee Tornado Update: Praying for All in the Path of The Storms

12/10/2023

Please join us in praying for the communities in the path of devastating storms in Tennessee last night.

Conference leaders are in contact with our counterparts in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Annual Conference and with UMCOR. The Conference is aware of significant damage to two United Methodist churches.

Our North Georgia Conference Early Response Teams stand ready to assist.

HOW TO HELP
The best way to offer our support is through prayer, preparation, and giving.

  • Pray for local officials & responders as they begin to reclaim control out of chaos.
  • Pray for communities in the path of the storms.
  • Give to UMCOR (U.S. Disaster Response #901670) through any United Methodist Church in our Conference.

DON'Ts OF DISASTER RESPONSE

  • As always, please do not self-deploy.
  • Additionally, please do not send water or goods to a disaster site. These types of well-meaning gifts are often the cause of a second disaster as they become a burden on communities.

Instead, our coordinated response upon invitation is a hallmark of our United Methodist connection and one reason we are a trusted partner of FEMA, GEMA, VOAD, and others.

The North Georgia Conference will continue to share updates at ngumc.org.
