LaGrange First UMC Hosts LaGrange College Sunday

9/26/2023

LaGrange First UMC has the gift of being located less than one mile from United Methodist-related LaGrange College! On September 23 the church celebrated the long relationship and connection by welcoming students, faculty, staff, and leaders to "LaGrange College Sunday" at the church.

Students planned and participated in worship. Music, liturgy, and scripture were all led by LaGrange College students. College President Susanne Baxter offered a word to the congregation, and College Chaplain Rev. Ashley Jenkins offered the sermon.

"It was a joyful Sunday," said Jenkins.

On LaGrange College Sunday, second-year student Aria Mabry read the affirmation of faith and was a part of the choir. Aria grew up in a United Methodist church and serves as president of the Wesley Fellowship at the college. She is studying musical theater.

"I am able to sing every week in the choir," she shared. "I am so incredibly grateful for the partnership between LaGrange College and LaGrange FUMC!"

LaGrange College is one of nine United Methodist-related colleges and universities in Georgia. The college emphasizes opportunities for spiritual growth and faith relationships of the students. In addition to the on-campus Chaplain and Spiritual Life team who nurture students, music students like Aria are frequent participants in the LaGrange First UMC choir, students with advanced technical skills serve behind the camera or in the sound booth, and students regularly attend worship and Wednesday night dinners at the church.
