In a joy-filled morning, Grace UMC Clarkesville was officially chartered as a United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 24. Charter members took vows as a new congregation organized for the glory of God, the proclamation of the gospel, and the service of humanity.

Grace UMC meets in the historic Deas Chapel. leased from the city of Clarkesville. This former AME church has a deep history and connection in the community. The building was restored several years ago by the city, but left virtually unused the last five years. The opportunity for the church to worship in this space is a positive development for both the church and the city.

"It is a simple place — elegant and beautiful," said Rev. Randy Kanipe, pastor of Grace. "A church member made our Altar Table, and another made the banners you see in the photos. Rev. Gerald Varner carved the letters on the front of the Altar Table."

The congregation is already filling the worship space and welcomes visitors each week.

"It's very encouraging," said Rev. Kanipe. "God has put this together and made every bit of this new beginning possible. I (and we) are merely passengers on this great journey."
