Glisson Chapel Expansion Details Finalized, Groundbreaking Set For Sept 16

9/13/2018

The North Georgia Conference is thrilled to share the groundbreaking date for preserving and expanding the Glisson Chapel. You're invited Sunday, Sept. 16, to a service celebrating the history and future of the chapel. Russell Davis, Executive Director of North Georgia Camp and Retreat Ministries, shares information in the letter below:

Dear friend of camp & retreat ministries,

Many of you will recall the announcement last February of our largest-ever single donation, which was given by a friend of Glisson to fully fund the preservation and expansion of the Glisson Chapel to accommodate our increased capacity for generations to come.

In the months since then, our staff, board, architect, and contractor have been working diligently to finalize the expansion design in time to break ground early enough this fall to finish construction before Summer 2019.

It is my joy and privilege to announce that we are officially ready to break ground on the expansion. As a member of our extended camp family, you are invited to help honor the Glisson Chapel's history to this point and to celebrate its future at a Chapel Expansion Groundbreaking Service at 3 pm on Sunday, September 16, at Glisson.

Please allow me to apologize for the short notice of this announcement and invitation. The combination of needing to confirm the final design and budget along with the need to begin construction early enough to avoid disrupting the 2019 summer camp season wound up offering an even narrower window than we had anticipated. As a staff, we decided that it would be much better to invite folks to come celebrate the Chapel on short notice than not at all.

It goes without saying that this is a special moment in Glisson's 94-year history. On the heels of continually increased camper attendance fueled by commitment to our longstanding core values and facilitated by the generosity of donors to create increased lodging and dining capacity, this largest-ever single donation keeps that momentum going by preserving and expanding Glisson's most beloved ministry facility so that everyone staying on our main campus can continue to worship together –– both now and for generations to come.

94 years into its story, Glisson is as strong as it's ever been. Praise God!

Speaking of, we would love the chance to join together in praising God for this tremendous blessing at the service on September 16. If you're unable to attend but would like to share a favorite Chapel story and/or picture, sign the event's Online Guestbook. If you have any questions about the event or the expansion design, check out our Chapel Expansion FAQs, or feel free to contact me directly at russell@ngcrm.org.

Grace and Peace,
