With great joy, East Cobb United Methodist Church and Family Promise of Cobb County dedicated a house on East Cobb UMC's campus February 4 to serve as temporary housing for families transitioning out of homelessness.

“Throughout East Cobb UMC’s history, this house has been used for a variety of purposes, from the junior parsonage to office space, including the former site as the Family Promise Day Center," said Rev. Kristin Lee, senior pastor. "We are excited about this newest transformation, allowing us to expand our long partnership with Family Promise and establish a transitional house on our property. Our church is committed to hosting families in the rotational shelter program throughout the year, and we give thanks to God for the opportunity to serve more families in Cobb County with this Transitional House. We recognize the difficulties many families face in establishing permanent housing and hope that alongside the wonderful staff and volunteers of Family Promise, East Cobb UMC can assist families on a successful path to independence. We are particularly grateful for the wonderful folks at St. Catherine’s Episcopal for working on the house during their recent MLK Service Day.”

Over the last decade, Family Promise of Cobb County has dedicated itself to the mission of assisting homeless families with children in achieving stable income, housing, and lasting independence. The organization collaborates with the local interfaith community, including 14 hosting congregations and several supporting congregations, to implement its Rotational Shelter Program.

Notably, East Cobb UMC stands as one of the original hosting congregations, joined by Marietta First UMC, Mt. Zion UMC, St. Andrew UMC, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Grace Marietta, Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Pilgrimage United Church of Christ, St. Catherine's Episcopal Church, Temple Kol Emeth, Transfiguration Catholic Church, Unity North Atlanta Church, and Zion Baptist Church.

Other supporting congregations include Acworth UMC, Annunciation Episcopal, Christ Episcopal Church, Our Redeemer Anglican Catholic Church, St. James Episcopal Church, St. Teresa’s Episcopal Church, Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Pathways Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church Marietta, and Baha’i Faith of Cherokee. Family Promise of Cobb County extends its transitional housing programs through partnerships with Kirkwood Presbyterian Church and Zion Baptist Church.

The house on East Cobb UMC's campus has now been completely remodeled inside and out to serve as Family Promise's third transitional house in Cobb County. Family Promise of Cobb County plans to work with families in the home as they journey back from homelessness.

“Family Promise of Cobb County greatly thanks the East Cobb UMC family for providing this home to assist future FPCC families” said Family Promise of Cobb County Executive Director Autumn Sines. “We are excited this house will be a foundation stepping stone to families as they journey toward freedom from homelessness.”

Family Promise of Cobb County is a community-based non-profit committed to guiding families on their journey from homelessness to independence. As an autonomous affiliate of the national organization Family Promise, FPCC operates locally with a mission to make a meaningful impact.
