Format, Schedule, and Background Check Updates:

As you prepare for your upcoming Clergy Ethics training, we wanted to let you know about the format of the training this year.

First, there will be TWO components of the training: an online learning platform portion and an in-person portion. Research has shown that self-paced online learning increases retention of information and allows everyone to digest it at their own pace. The three-hour online component will need to be completed BEFORE you attend in-person training. It will be released on January 13th – ten days before the first in-person session. If you do not complete the online training portion before your scheduled in-person session, you will need to reschedule for a different in-person training day.

Second, our in-person training will be shortened. All weekday events will now be from 10 am – 3 pm. The Sunday session will be from 3 pm – 8 pm. The in-person day will focus on applying the knowledge you have learned in the online training with scenarios and interactive activities. It will still include lunch or dinner. As a reminder, you must be prompt – arriving after the start time will result in your being turned away and asked to attend a different session. At the end of the session, you will receive a certificate with 1 continuing education credit. Please keep in mind that this training is required in order to be appointed.

Third, we are excited to have partnered with the South Georgia Conference this year to offer training across the state. We have engaged voices across the conference to offer you some of the best training information possible.

On January 13th you will receive an email from Teachable to invite you to access the online learning platform. We will remind you to look for this email once it is available.

Lastly, as a reminder, part of our ethics training this year will include completing a background check. The screening invitation for the background check will come from PeopleFacts to your NGUMC email account. Be on the lookout for this email in the weeks ahead.

This quadrennial training in clergy ethics is an important part of our sacred covenant with each other and those whom we serve in the name of Christ. Thank you for your time and attention to this continuing education requirement.
