Cascade UMC exceeds fundraising goal to build first United Methodist church in Central African Republic

Cascade UMC Atlanta has achieved quite a feat in partnership with the UMC General Board of Global Ministries.

The church announced Sunday that the congregation has raised $150,358.00 to build the first United Methodist church in the Central African Republic.

The fundraising campaign was just three weeks long, and far exceeded the original $100,000 goal. The response to this opportunity underscores Cascade's commitment to global outreach and mission work, as well as the generosity and dedication of its congregation.

On Sunday, Roland Fernandes, General Secretary of Global Ministries and UMCOR, attended worship at Cascade to receive the gift and join in celebrating the announcement.

"It is remarkable to see the impact Cascade is having in the local community and abroad, and it was wonderful to be part of vibrant worship services, particularly at the midtown location given our partnership there," said Fernandes. Cascade's Midtown location is on the campus of UMC Global Ministries and UMCOR on Ponce de Leon Ave in Atlanta.

The presentation highlighted the significance of this milestone and celebrated the work that is underway in the Central African Republic as the United Methodist church is already engaged in making disciples of Jesus Christ in the region.

"We are incredibly proud to have exceeded our fundraising goal and to have the opportunity to contribute to the establishment of a United Methodist presence in the Central African Republic," said Rev. Dr. Kevin R. Murriel, Senior Pastor of Cascade UMC. "This historic moment represents our vision to be a light in the community and around the world, and we are grateful for the support of our congregation and partners at Global Ministries."
