North Georgia United Methodists Serving Their Communities MLK Weekend

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, United Methodists across the North Georgia Conference are serving, hosting their neighbors, and offering special worship services this weekend.

Below are some of the special events and service projects:

  • Andrews Chapel UMC Jonesboro is hosting the 39th annual Clayton County MLK Ecumenical Service. (Learn more.)
  • Ben Hill UMC Atlanta is hosting its annual MLK Community Program, honoring and celebrating the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service awards are presented at the event. (Learn more.)
  • More than 100 Clark Atlanta University students will serve on MLK Day at Truly Living Well, an urban community garden. 
  • Dallas First UMC is hosting the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church's MLK Commemorative Service. (Learn more.) 
  • Decatur First UMC and Oak Grove UMC are participating in The MLK Service Project which provides home repairs for seniors in the City of Decatur. (Learn more.)
  • Glenn Memorial UMC in Atlanta is joining the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA) for their annual MLK Day Watershed Cleanup. (Learn more.) Glenn is also participating in the MLK Day celebration at Branan Towers of Wesley Woods. Residents of Branan Tower will hear Dr. King's I Have a Dream Speech read by youth and residents and enjoy snacks, games, and crafts. 
  • Grace UMC Elberton took part in the community Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Parade. (Learn more.)
  • Harris Chapel UMC in Palmetto, where Rev. Dr. Wimbley Hale, Jr., is pastor, will host the Palmetto Community MKL Program on Sunday, January 14, 2024 @3:00 p.m. Reverend Lewis Logan will be the Guest Speaker. All are invited.
  • Mt Zion UMC in Ellenwood is hosting an MLK Jr service project this Sunday. (Learn more.) 
  • Red Oak UMC Stockbridge is hosting the Henry County NAACP's MLK Prayer Breakfast. (Learn more.)
  • Shepherd of the Hills UMC in Douglasville is giving back to the community, including nearby Chapel Hill Elementary, through Operation MLK Day. 
  • Trinity UMC Cartersville is hosting a service project on MLK Day to feed all first responders in the community who work on the holiday weekend.
