Here for You: Opportunities for Continuing United Methodists

11/17/2023

The United Methodist Church is a source of light and hope here in North Georgia and around the world. Our connection serves those in need and shares God’s love every single day. A renewed sense of purpose is leading us forward.

If you are displaced from your church home due to disaffiliation, or if you need pastoral support during this difficult time, remember that there is a place for you in The United Methodist Church. Thanks to our connectional system, others across our Conference stand ready to welcome you.

Here are a few options to consider:

Connect with a Lighthouse Congregation
Find a local church and pastor that are remaining United Methodist by visiting www.ngumc.org/lighthouse. These vibrant communities of faith will welcome you to worship, care for you, and offer opportunities for you to serve and grow among them.

Transfer Your Membership to Another United Methodist Congregation
Beyond the Lighthouse movement, many, many United Methodist congregations are welcoming new members like you. Transfer your membership to another United Methodist congregation in your area by reaching out to the church pastor. Search for churches in your area by zip code, church name, or city at ngumc.org/churches.

Transfer Your Membership to Your District Roll
Your District Office is prepared and honored to hold your membership “in the meantime” as you discern what is next for you and your family. Transferring your membership to the district allows you to stay connected to the present and future ministry of The United Methodist Church.

In addition, the District Roll is where membership in emerging new church starts and new faith communities may be held until the new church is chartered.

Extension Ministers and Church Staff
Staff Looking for New Opportunities

Church staff called to serve through a United Methodist church are encouraged to check the job listings at ngumc.org/classifieds regularly.

Retired Clergy and Extension Ministers Transferring Charge Conference
Retired Clergy and Extension Ministers whose Charge Conference is disaffiliating from The United Methodist Church must move their Charge Conference affiliation to a UMC by December 31. Do this by talking with the pastor of the church you are moving to and then informing the Center for Clergy Excellence.

Our connection is among our greatest strengths, and North Georgia United Methodists stand ready to welcome you.
