Bishop Dease Speaks at National Scout Gathering

Scouting leaders from across the country gathered in Atlanta earlier this summer for the National Annual Meeting of the BSA.
A highlight of the annual meeting is always the Duty to God Breakfast. Duty to God has been a core tenet of Scouting since the organization’s founding in 1910. This breakfast was an opportunity for Scouting leaders and faith leaders to come together to be inspired and to celebrate individuals who have exemplified their faith through their actions, to celebrate faith in the BSA and to recognize and thank the various faith groups who partner with the Boy Scouts of America.
This year Bishop Robin Dease was honored to be keynote speaker for the Duty to God Breakfast representing The United Methodist Church nationally as well as all faith partners of the BSA.
She based her message on the Scout Oath, which she recited, especially emphasizing the familiar line: “… I will do my best to do my Duty to God."
“When you wholeheartedly commit to this oath, you can be assured your future is hopeful,” Dease said.
A special patch was designed for the event with Bishop Dease's name and the UMC, recognizing her participation and the church’s support of the BSA. The patch was given to each attendee.
As the keynote speaker, Bishop Dease brought her passion for youth development and her love for God's church to the crowd of BSA volunteers and professionals eager to strengthen the movement’s future.
Bishop Dease has been a supporter of youth growth and development her whole ministry. This includes support of Scouting and serving on the South Carolina Children’s Trust Board. As a District Superintendent, she hosted a 100-year Anniversary Celebration of the relationship between The United Methodist Church and the BSA.
Bishop Dease has announced she is hosting a conference-wide Bishop’s Scout Lunch on March 9, 2024, to be held at Peachtree Road UMC in Atlanta.
