Change Haiti - City on a Hill
Continuing last year’s “Christmas is not YOUR birthday” campaign, CITY ON A HILL is again reaching out to those in need throughout the world.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. With a population of ten million people, as many as one million children are out of school. The government cannot afford to sponsor public schools and parents cannot afford to send children to private school. Haiti has been hit back to back with four hurricanes, which have basically deleted their top soil; in essence, they have no agriculture. Many Haitians are illiterate and the education of the future generation is their greatest hope.
What a great Christmas gift it will be to help children attend school, have their books, shoes and clothing provided and one guaranteed hot meal a day! To provide this gift for one child is approximately $325. Make your “Change” count for Haiti. The Christmas 2009 Mission will find CITY ON A HILL friends and family collecting their change in milk jugs over the next several months. See how your change can make a difference.
Make this a fun family project where once a month you can count and roll your change and celebrate your family’s contributions. Milk jug banks are available after the 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. worship services at Johnston Elementary School, 2031 East Cherokee Drive, Woodstock, GA, or make your own. As December approaches, a date will be announced to return all milk jugs. Contact dianna@cityonahillumc.org for further information.
