This morning Michelle Joyce Kunce from the North Georgia Conference was commissioned by the General Board of Global Ministries as a missionary of The United Methodist Church!

Michelle grew up United Methodist and joined Tuckston UMC in Athens as a college student. She soon took part in a mission trip with the church to Brazil to work with the "Shade and Fresh Water" program of the Brazillian Methodist Church.

Today, years later, her first missionary placement is as International Partnership Promoter for Shade and Fresh Water in Brazil.

This beautiful story of call is made even better because members of her Tuckston UMC church family traveled to Charlotte to support Michelle and celebrate her commissioning!

They brought with them photos from that mission trip to Brazil all those years ago!
Shade and Fresh Water was born in 2000 in an effort to help the Brazilian Methodist Church unify and coordinate its social programming with children, provide materials for local churches, and train those working with children.

Over the past 24 years, Shade and Fresh Water has grown to approximately 60 projects, serves over 3,000 children and youth, and counts on the support of over 2,000 volunteers around the country. Each project has a common vision of providing a place for children to experience the kingdom of God and feel loved, respected, and welcomed.

Michelle was one of 16 missionaries commissioned today. Read about the ways they are serving in "Finding Their Mission: Following God's Lead."
